Ryan,
I live in Boston, and I'm running a Weber 32/36 and stock points ignition on my '72. In the morning, I pump the gas twice, then crank the engine with my foot completely off the gas. It cranks for about a second or two, then starts every time. I let it warm up on fast idle for a minute or two, then I'm off. I'm not sure what carb you are running, but you may need to adjust your automatic choke to achieve quicker starting. You should sort out the problem now, before it gets REALLY cold, as on those 5 degree mornings you don't have much cranking time before you kill the battery. Good luck!
Colin
