Removal of the link arm from the driving spindle (archive)

So I've got my entire windshield wiper linkage out in order to replace the driving spindle, but I can't figure out how to remove the little ball piece from the link rod. I've tried prying, but it doesn't even look like it can be done. Any helpful hints?
