After much messing with my 1602 original 2 line system I am starting to suspect the remote vacuum booster/servo. It is a really difficult item to find,(anybody seen one?) and $499. to totally rebuild this one....isn't there an alternative 'southern engineered' way of slapping one in off of another car...that is, one I can find at Pep Boys and doesn't cost a german arm und a leg?

I had the same problems with my 1600-2. I finally decided to put in a 2002 pedal box($50 used), 2002 booster ($25 used), and a 320i master cylinder ($75 new). I haven't finished the installation yet, but I don't expect any major problems. I'm also upgrading to bigger brakes. The major expense here is buying 14" wheels. In the long run I think it will be worth it.
