I have the TEP 5-speed bracket in my 2002, and while it seems to work fine, I too had to grind it for speedo cable clearance. For the cost of the part, I should not have had to do that to make it fit. Also, the bracket is nothing you couldn't make yourself in about an hour if you can weld. Read the section on 5-speed conversions at bimmers.com, it is very thorough. In my opinion, the best way to do the conversion is to weld new stock-type mounts to the tunnel and use a shortened stock crossmember with a 320i rubber mount. Most of the other methods I've seen, including the TEP bracket that I used, are kinda cheezy. Good Luck.
