The rocker panel extends from beneath the lower part of the front fender all the way to the inner wheel arch in the rear. It is overlapped by the front fender in the front and quarter panel in the back. It basically has a jogged section that allows for an even lap of both fender and quarter panel, although there is an exposed seam. For originality's sake, I would recommend buying the repair panel for the overlapped quarter panel piece, do a nice job buttwelding the panel into place, and replicate the factory lapped seam on the rocker (though a couple of nicely done rosette/plug welds near the lap will give it a little extra strengh) This will maintain the original lapped seam thats in the rocker. Then when you go to sell the car (if ever) you can highlight this as a mark of a quality restoration, not a body shop-bodged fix.

However, if you've got rust in the rear wheelarch, I would recommend replacing the entire panel.

Good Luck!
