The E12 Cylinder head has been opened up, maybe thats why you can't use these Pistons with the E12 Head, The valves could be in different positions or come down at different angles, If you were going to try, don't bolt the head down, put some putty on the piston tope when you turn it over by hand, i'll but you find that the head will lift of the block or there would be indents in the putty,
From using Macartney's book for 2 years now, i have no reason to think that what he says is wrong
Have these other people had as much experience with 2002's as he has?
And his book comes reccomended my so many people!

I've got some raised grand piano-topped pistons. On the inside, it says: "MAHLE", "C021", and "89V11". On the top, near the "+" symbol, there's an "E". To the left of the "E", it reads "217" and to the right it reads "113". I have no way of measuring this now, but perhaps tomorrow. Anyone know what compression ratio these are?

Will they work with a 121 head? My mechanic buddy says they will, and the bimmers.com site says that pistons up to 10:1 will work on a 121. But Macartney's Restoration Guide says grand piano pistons should only be used with an E12 head; the 121 head requires raised bathtub pistons. So who's right?

Thanks, everyone.

Hoa
