The grand piano shaped pop ups are for E12 heads only. You need the oval "bathtub" shaped pop ups for a 121 head. What the text at bimmers.com says is that compression can go up to 10:1 for a 121 head, but that is only with the proper matching pistons.

I've got some raised grand piano-topped pistons. On the inside, it says: "MAHLE", "C021", and "89V11". On the top, near the "+" symbol, there's an "E". To the left of the "E", it reads "217" and to the right it reads "113". I have no way of measuring this now, but perhaps tomorrow. Anyone know what compression ratio these are?

Will they work with a 121 head? My mechanic buddy says they will, and the bimmers.com site says that pistons up to 10:1 will work on a 121. But Macartney's Restoration Guide says grand piano pistons should only be used with an E12 head; the 121 head requires raised bathtub pistons. So who's right?

Thanks, everyone.

Hoa
