LSD fluids have a friction modifier in them, to allow the clutches to operate. Without it the LSD dowsn't work very well, because the clutches slip instead of operating as designed. When you corner you can tell they are not catching properly because the diff will "chatter" at you.

You can get this friction modifier from a number of sources, among them GM dealers. it's a common item. You can then use the regular differential lube along with the friction modifier instead of looking for special LSD fluid.

Benkku, do you know what's special in gear oils labelled specially for lsd's?

I looked into this problem last week and the recommendation i got was to use 75w-90 oil in the tranny and 80W-90 in the diff. This was a oil manufacturers recommendations based on the owners manuals GL-4 and GL-5 recommendations.
Benkku

A week ago there was a discussion on what weight oil to use in the transmission. I think the concensus was 90 wt.

Would I be able to get away with Valvoline 80W90 gear oil if I cannot find just 90 weight?
