I need advice on how to get the pin back through the shift rod without removing the transmission from the car ???

It should just push right through, then a spring steel tubular retainer about the diameter of a roll of life savers clips over the coupler to keep the pin in there. Put some anti seize compound on the pin to keep it from rusting in place. There is no need to remove the transmission.
