Try putting in a fuel pressure gage in the fuel line before the injection pump. run the car, check reading... should be around 29psi.

if it's way too high could be blocked press. regulator valve. You can take it apart and clean it... but use caution (hard to find little parts inside).

You also could try soaking the valve in carb cleaner and hit it with a tooth brush... might loosen some crud too.

If the electric fuel pump is toast, take a trip to the local pick n' pull... '76 5 series car has the same fuel pump and mounting bracket. This will be a lot easier on your pocket book than a new one($7 compared to $200+ for new)! Make sure you clean the little wire mesh filter inside before putting it on your car.

My fuel pump just started leaking and it appears that it's not pumping correctly. It will pump for a little while and then I can't hear it, like it can't pump against the pressure. If the pressure regulating valve is malfunctioning it might make the pump act this way. All the hoses are tight and new, so I'd like to rule out the valve before going out and getting a new fuel pump. Any thoughts? Is the valve still available?

Thanks,
Tom
