After removing the locking tab, take a 4-ish foot piece of channel steel, or square tube or even pipe, and drill two holes in it that match the output shaft flange holes. The steel must be narrow enough to allow you to get the socket on the nut when the steel is bolted to the flange.

Now put the transmission on the ground, bolt the steel channel to the flange, and park a car on the other end of the steel (I used a Dodge van weighing about 5000 lbs.). Using a sturdy breaker bar and a long pipe that slides over the breaker bar handle as an extension, remove the nut by applying lots of torque to the nut. I had to stand on the breaker bar at least 3 feet from the nut, I believe, and I weigh about 210 lbs--hence over 600lbs of torque.

I can't seem to get the X!@&*##! nut off. Does this sucker have a reverse thread??? I'm using lots of PB Blaster, a 1/2" breaker bar and 3' of pipe!

I've bolted the tranny to a big hunk of 2x6 to help hold it, still no luck. Outside of an impact wrench (will the socket even fit), any ideas????
