on a new (rebuilt?) alternator and replaced voltage regulator. Since the belt squeals like crazy after a puddle, the belt probalby needs to be tightened (squeals in the cold sometimes too). My alt/volt reg isn't any older than yours. Try the cheaper solution first before you buy a new alternator (I want that 530i one).

What can make this happen? Driving home in the rain yesterday when suddenly the alternator light began to glow. I'd suspect the alternator, but I bought a rebuilt one only 17,000 miles ago. Can this be going out already?

I check all the connections, etc., but no obvious solutions.

Thanks!
