Oddly enough 3 years ago I taped the Daytona 500 because I had to go to church. He won that race and I still have the tape. My wife often wondered why I still had the tape. Yesterday I was able to watch less than half the race before I had to start taping it so I could go to church. After I got home my wife called her parents who told her the news. Even though she didn't watch the races much, it hurt her, not just because her youner brother and I are huge Dale Earnhardt fans, but because of the man he was.

When see told me I was in shock, I finished watching the X-Files, then watched the tape of the race. For those last 10 laps or so Dale Sr. held the pack of cars off while Michael Waltrip and Dale Jr. led the race.

He didn't even get to see the finish. Michael and Dale Jr. finished 1,2, both cars were owned by Dale Sr.

You will be missed #3.
