I'm one of those Aussies; I regularly scan the South Australian and National press - I'm really looking for a car with an original 5 speeder to go into my Historic Tourer (CAMS GpNc logbooked etc). Anyway, I have recently seen the following advertised:

$20,000AUS two months ago in Victoria - a full race/rally car with cage, twin 45's, all the sexy performance bits and a smashing paint job too. ("lots of horsepowers and cc's and things, and look at the colour!")

$19,950AUS in Adelaide this weekend - "Tii, restored classic, history, reluctant sale" (not that he need worry - at that price it must have silver plating on most bits!)

$11,000AUS in Adelaide last month - can't remember the Ad exactly, but a similar sort of car with aircon

$9750AUS in Melbourne two months ago - original Tii with 5 speed, aircon, reprayed, good working order (more realistic now - nearly chased that one just for the gearbox, but Xmas got in the way)

$5000 or less - most weeks in the Trading Post - runners of one sort or another. Do a search on the Trading Post website and see what crops up. I'd post a link if I knew how to, but most search engines should turn it up. TradingPost.com.au I think. Quite a few autos around, but aircon is rare (back in the 70's, REAL Australians lived without it).

Our American friends can divide those figures by two to get a price in this weeks US dollars, thanks to the chronic exchange rate at present. All those cars are original RHD, and there are excellent BMW Owners Clubs in every state. Not sure what else to tell you about the Aussie BMW scene, but e-mail offline if you want any more info.

And if ANYBODY IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE can put me onto an original 235 box, or even just an empty casing (CAMS allows free internals, but the casing must be original, doh.) - I'll love you forever. Actually I'd even ship a dead one from America if the price was right.

Best wishes to all. This is a great board, and the tech tips in the archive make my internet connection worthwhile! Thanks.

Tim. 72 2002 with racy bits.

PS fyi CAMS is the Confederation of Australian Motorsport

sorry, posted a question earlier about the price and availability of a 1971 BMW 2002... but typed it as 2001... sorry bout that, my question still stands but... anyone know??
