Since the chrome tip fits on the outside of the muffler, I'd try collapsing the muffler tube enough so that you can evidentually work the tip off.

Start with a mallet and a drift and start dimpling the tube. Once the tube starts collapsing, you may want to change to a large set of channel locks. Keep squeezing the tube together.
