Hi everyone,
I'm having a little trouble with my m42 converted 02. I'll try to be brief.
What used to happen:
After running awhile if I would stop the engine for 10-15 minutes and restart It would have trouble holding idle speed, idle rough and occasionally stall. Restarting would result in a perfectly running motor. While running rough I could often feather the throttle past this momentary episode and be fine. There was never any symtom of trouble at speed or idling after this initial anomoly.
What I did:
Changed the large fuel filter, pressure regulator and checked the pump pickup. Also removed and replaced the idle control valve (it was clean). All to no avail.
What it does now: (coincedentally right after the clutch job)
The stumble has now (rapidly) developed into a full time running problem. First noticed that constant throttle followed by accell gave a momentary stumble (any engine speed). This has rnow deteriorated to a very poor running condition. Cold starts are good but after 2-3 minutes the car stumbles terribly, with very bad throttle response. However, it is still an on/off condition; blipping throttle will "clear it out" and it will seem ok for a couple of revs but then it sets in again. It definately seems to be something that is getting worse as time passes.
What I did:
Changed the fuel pump and oxygen sensor relays. Then...
Ran a pressure guage between the filter and the rail while driving and found the range between 37lbs(idle) and 45lbs (accelerating). This is really disturbing as I hopped low pressure was the problem.Question: What to check, what to do? I will take a plug reading in the morning, and try to fix the diagnostic plug (no power currently).
I know this is really not a typical 02 thing. I'm also posting to the e30 and e36 boards but if anyone has some advice it would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan T.
