I'm certainly no expert. Have at it and enjoy. Seems like a lot of work though, and unless you can change the angle of the front and rear glass, and build a totally new nose....

A 318ti has all the aero mods, and the lower gearing and dosen't come close to 50mpg. Neither does virtually any modern production gas powered car.

I figured with different gearing, drop the car, and lots of areo mods including front spoiler, side skirts, and a possible grille blockout with air openings at the bottem along with any other Items to make the car slip through the air more efficiently...I may also modify the motor to use less fuel as well...

I think 50mpg will be tough from a boxy shape like the 02. My m42 powered 02 gets around 32-35 on the highway depending on what I'm driving behind (if anything). That's cruising at 75-85 at around 4000 rpm's (speedo needs calibration)

I was thinking about building a 50 MPG 02 with a motor from an 84-85 318i, or possibly an m42 with a 5 speed overdrive, AC, dark tinted rear windows, a comftorable interior (newer seats) and a good stereo, any ideas? I would use a low gear ratio to turn 2000 rpm at 70 or 80 MPH, areo mods, and makew the engine as efficent as possible...
