Unused electrical connections under dash? (archive)

Hi folks,
Was installing new speedo cable this weekend (speedo still doesn't work, wonder what I did wrong), I found three "free" electrical connectors under the dash, behind the cardboard panels and a couple of inches to the right of the hood release. They were all directly next to or attached to each other, and the wires all ran back through the firewall to the engine bay. They were the oblong rectangular shaped connectors that I might have seen by the headlights before. Any ideas?

'75 2002 with fresh brake hoses all round, replacing the originals (!!)
