In Reply to: Help with identifying '71/'72 bumper brackets posted by John Weese on April 01, 2001 at 17:02:00:

of the two holes that mounts to frame. Also you can usually see the rubber grommet marks that fits in the front valence slot. They should be outlined on the metal in a manner which slants from bottom to top towards front of car. If you mount them wrongly the bumper will slope downwards versus straight. It's no big deal to disassemble and reverse. I do have an extra drivers side bracket. I also have a pair of regular non-bent brackets.

As a quick follow up to my post a couple days ago, I removed the twisted front bumper brackets from my wrecked '72tii today. It is impossible to tell if they "bend upward" or "bend downward" in stock/unwrecked form in front of the frame rails, mine are twisted so badly.

I have one replacement bracket, but I can't tell which side it fits on...before I order another bracket can anyone help me identify which side is which? Do the brackets "bend downward" or "bend upward" forward of the frame rail mounting bolts?

These brackets were only available on later '71's and '72's I believe...there are two bends on the mounting piece...the earlier brackets were rounded in the front (wothout the two bends).

Thanks for any help!

John
