I finally got my head of today to find the expected burnt exhaust valve and to my utter astonishment I found something totally different and unexpected. Since I bought this car from a guy who had bought this car from a guy blah blah blah. I asumed it had stock pistons and cam in it because it performed like a weak a$$ barely 100 hp car. I found something completly different though. It apears that the #2 piston had water in it at some time and has turned a section of cylinder sideall into 400 grit sandpaper. The number 3 cylinder looks like it's had water in it as well. They both apear to get their water from a edgy old headgasket but to my surprise. This car has high compression pistons in it. If anyone could goto the link below and view the picture and if you could tell me what CR those pistons are that would help immensly. They have the mahle mark on them as well as 89.46 on the tops. The cam is something else that surprised me. It has "ha 300" hand engraved on the end so I think it's a 300 degree duration cam. Anyone recognize this mark? Anyone know of any vendors that marked their cams like this? ONE more thing. If you look at the cylinders in the link. They apear to have what looks like a copper wire around the rims of them. My first impression was it was the edge of an innerliner. but then started to look and it apears as if someone put a coper ring around the tops to seal it up against the head gasket even more. Like an Oring. Since I have to sleve #2 (will tear that ring out with this) and hone the rest. I was wondering was this a practice in the older times or what. I've never seen a block with that in it. Was wondering if any master engine builders wanna shead some light on the subject. Thanks in advance
