Will any year ignition switch fit all 2002's? (archive)

I just purchase a beat up 02 and found an ignition switch on the trunk that was still on the plastic bag with key. Will that switch fit on my 74? The beat up car is a 76, but not sure if that switch was for the 76. Why do I wanna switch the ignition on my 74? cuz the key just keeps turning.
