One thing about the rear defroster kit from J.C. Whitney, the adhesive on it the grid are sensitive to moisture. So, if you try putting the tinting material over it, the adhesive on the grid may let loose. Check out various tint manufacturers before starting on the defroster installation.

If you really want tinted windows, break down and buy a new rear windshield and get it tinted before installing it.
