I adjusted the valves today, 5 were above .008. I also tightened the exhaust manifold to the down pipe, which was loose. I still get ticking and it doesn't seem to have changed much. The oil is fairly clean still, I had an oil change about 300 miles into the rebuild and another at 1400. The engine was rebuilt about 1700 miles ago. My rings have not seated yet, I think, because it smokes when the revs get up there on deaccelaration. The mechanic said it was the vacum sucking oil past the rings. I had the head reworked about 50 miles before I parked the car for the rebuild. Could I have a problem with the rings, broken or something? Do I check this with a compression gauge? Any answers welcome. Thanks in advance.
