I would use the alternator and starter from the 325i, and the water pump, radiator, and hoses from the 323i. You will have to cut the top edge of the radiator bulkhead to move the rad forward an inch or two to clear the water pump. The water pump Pete McHenry referred to was cutting the pump housing and shaft shorter, and reassembling with a special bearing. He tells me the special bearing is no longer available. The water pump modification was only necessary to get the six into the '02 without cutting anything. If you use a 323 or even a 325 water pump without a fan, you will have to do very little cutting of the car to get the radiator to clear. You will, however, have to use an electric cooling fan mounted ahead of the radiator.
