1. I saw an S14 stroker crank for sale on the board and wanted to know how I put one of those suckers in. If not, how much would some high compression pistons cost me along with a good used crank? Anyone got any?
2. where can I get:
-head gasket
-oil pan seal
-valve cover seal
-intake manifold gaskets
-connecting rod bearings
3. Anyone know what an Ameri cam is?? I think thats what it said lol.
-I'm also planning on getting rid of all that carbon build-up on the valves and the head...whats the best way to do it? And then adjusting the clearance on the rocker arms.
Thanks everyone,
-Doug
Maxmillian has all the gaskets you need for an overhaul but your shopping list looks a bit incomplete(no timing cover gaskets or crank seals?). What you need is a complete overhaul gasket/seal kit. Also you say you are going to remove the carbon from the head/valves but you don't say anything about replacing guides and seals and and having the valves ground and checking to make sure the head is flat. Unless you have a relatively fresh head whats the point of the rebuild if you aren't going to do the top end? You say you are going to adjust the valve clearance. That is something you ought to be checking every couple of thousand miles anyway. Are you talking about checking the rockers for worn shafts and faces?
You say you lost a rod bearnig. Did the metal shavings do any damage to the other components in the engine(oil pump)?, Are you going to have the cylinder bores oversized and honed. Are you going to get the rods checked for straightness and rebushed? Are you going to have the anything checked for balance? Overhauling a 2002 motor is something you can do yourself, but besides a shop manual you need to have a good experienced machine shop to check and recondition the parts. If you are thinking about buying a used crank why not consider buying a good used engine.
