Your comment "I could shift into any other gear but it would not move unless I put it in fourth.." Sounds to me like the shifter is moving, but the transmission is not actually being shifted. This could be external linkage, or I suppose it could be a problem with the internal shift rods.

By '76 they had sorted out numerous problems with these trannys. If your '68 tranny is original, it's got the old "Porsche" style synchros and a weak ball-type layshaft bearing. If the '76 tranny is good (should be, unless it was run without oil), I'd think about swapping them.

Where are you located?

Mike

I parked my car on Thursday and went out of town for the weekend and When I got back this morning the car was stuck in fourth...I could shift into any other gear but it would not move unless I put it in fourth..The car is a 68 2002 and just rolled 70000 for the first time.....Is this a sign that I should start looking for a good five speed.........
I was able to get it out of gear but it took some banging in third to get it to pop out......
