Advice needed on my transmission. The tranny was starting to get hard to put into 2nd (synchros, I think). Now that the tranny is out, I want to get it rebuilt. Can I just take it to any reputable transmission shops for a rebuild? Is this BMW rocket science, i.e., does this job require special BMW expertise, tools, etc.? Or will any good transmssion shop do? I am in the Houston, TX area.

Thanks!

Rebuilt trans from 2002AD about 2 years ago cost me $795. That was before I knew about the 5 sp conversion. A 5 sp conversion kit through Ireland costs about $1000 with a used trans. This is what I am doing now because I really need the extra gear. Yes, the trans is used but I trust their judgement to evaluate it and sell it as a good one. If I had to do it all over again I would have done the 5 sp. without a question.
