According to Brendan Lopez in an article in European Car in 1994(June) "differentials equipped with limited slip mechanisms can be identified by numbers stamped on the side of the differential housing. Some limited slip differentials will also hasve a big "S" painted on the side or top of the housing. The stamped code will be S25, S45 or S70, denoting a 25, 40 or 75 percent limited slip mechanism."
It also says anything other than a 25 in the 320i was uncommon.Hope that helps. TerjeOther than guessing by the ratio and model/year it came from, is it stamped on the casing? I don't think the nos. stamped on the bottom indicate the slip. Is it only on the aluminum tag that's attached sometimes? What if you don't have the tag? Sellers seem to quote % slips that don't exactly make sense in some cases either.
