Get a ball joint "pickle fork" to separate everything. If you have a desire to replace the strut bottom ball joint, you might have to drill out the rivets. All doable at home though. I did the front in an apartment complex double space with stands.

I need to rebuild my suspension all around the car, and to avoid paying about $800 in labor for just the front end, I was thinking about how I could do it myself with just some jacks and hand tools. So, for any of you experienced 02 mechanics, I have a question.
Can I just get some new control arms, bushings, ball joints and pre-assemble them. Then unbolt the existing arms at the stabilizer rod/subframe/hub and bolt up the new assembly or would it be harder than that? I don't know what I'm doing, but I'd like to do this since 02's are so simple. I was looking under there while I changed my oil teh other day and it looks easy, but I realize there are lots of little tricks I don't know about.

Thanks,
Elliot '76 02

p.s. if I'm planning on the Girling/'77 320i big brake upgrade do you need the 320i hubs or will the stock hubs work? Are the hubs easy to get off?
