320i oil filter-will it work?-More... (archive)

I found out the filter I have is for a 320i. It appears dimensionally the same as the proper 02 filter. I'm also under the impression that the 320i motor is just an evolution (de-evolution?) of the 2002 motor and is basically the same with a few exceptions. Has anyone used a 320 oil filter on their 02? Before I get flamed for being cheap let me just say that it's not the money as much the curiosity. I need to do an oil change and the nearest dealership is really far away. If I can use this pretty Red gem sitting on my desk-great. But, I don't want to risk my motor over something so trivial. TIA
