if you do the m20 youre gonna have to think about where the rad is gonna go. you wont be able to put it in the original 02 spot, therefore you might wanna go custom 3 core on the outside (if you dont want to cut). or maybe rad/oil cooler in one (check archives for that).

i would recommend the m20 conversion because of the obvious, lower price, and the extra weight(70 pounds or so) is a plus for handling. it sounds like you wanna break the sound berrior, so with the extra money you saved by doing the m20 conversion, sure, why not turbocharge it? but im sure the m20 alone will be plenty fast. i highly doubt that you'll be unhappy with the power of it but there's tons of upgrades that you can do besides turbo.

Greetings my fellow 02 fanatics!
I am planning on doing the S14 swap into my '72 02 and am wondering what Radiator would suffice, or be ideal? 3 cored 2002? 320i? E30 M3? I guess I should also add that I plan on doing the 2.5L conversion, and maybe down the road even mildly turbocharging it. What rad will give the adequate cooling for my application? I guess I should include that i'm in Baltimore, MD where it gets pretty hot in the summers and somewhat cold in the winters.
Also, if you recommend that I go with the M3, what mods need to be made to get it to fit in my 02? Well, thanks all for the advice. Happy 02ing!
