I was also planing on having some new pistons made to drop the compression of the motor some...down to around the 8:1 or 9:1 range.

You might try a custom head gasket to drop the compression, at least at first, until you've got your set-up tweaked. That way you can play with compression ratios until you get the right balance of torque and tendancy to detonate. Also, you have an "expendable" engine to learn on. Once you have the set-up finalized, build bullet proof turbo-specific motor. Just my thoughts.
