Yesterday, as a favor to a friend who couldn't make it, attended an M3 (E36) drive to take some pics of the gathering. Total of 8 x '95-'99 cars showed up along with my '73 tii (grand daddy). We met in Milpitas, CA and drove all the way to the Lick Observatory on top Mt. Hamilton. Some great twisty roads. Anyway up at the Observatory, 30+ BMWphiles were there as well and one red '01 M3 convertible too. Sadly, I was the only 2002 tii. Moments after we parked, this cop walks up to me and asks for registration. I asked what for and he said I was missing a front plate! Great, but check out all the other cars on the lot with NO FRONT PLATES! So he wrote me up and as if that wasn't enough, he called in to check my record, ran to the back to check if my registration was tidy then came back to me saying "Mr. Chan, looks like your driving record is clean and so is your vehicle. Have a nice day." Then drove off. This is what I have to say... Mr. Policeman, look at my '73 if you want to even ask how I restored it but you don't need to write me up a ticket to disguise your touristy eyes...
