Do DCOE's give low end torque comparable to the 38/38? I have also heard it is hard to get a good idle. I the top end flow of the 38/38 comparable to DCOE's? Any reccomendations? I have 9.5:1 pistons w/total seal rings, Top End performance head rebuild with 288 camshaft, Pertronix with blue coil, 4-into 1
header, I will also have 2.25 exhaust with a freeflow magnaflow muffler.TIA

DCOEs look and sound much cooler than their downdraft counterparts. I have a 38/38 now on a tired stock engine with a tii manifold and mech. advance distributor and love that carb. I get about 27 mpg on the highway, and I can really tune that sucker. BUT I'll soon have an engine similar to yours: 9.5:1 CR, Schrick 292 cam, ported and polished head, and I'll be using 40 DCOEs. The car will be a daily driver during the nicer months, and DCOEs are just as flexible as downdrafts for daily use. With DCOEs you have to sync them, and fiddle with getting you air filters around a stock brake booster (or even Tii brake booster). FWIW, if you want driveability, either one will do, but the DCOEs will give you a better and smoother (not to mention more agreeable) top end. They really shouldn't drop your bottom end torque much, either.
