The expansion tanks can crack, typically with a hair line crack that can not be seen by inspection unless the system is under pressure (about 28psi). I had my tank brazed up (remove from the car frist) to fix a very small hair line crack at the house fitting connection. These pumps seem to run forever, replaced my pump at 280,000 miles, it still worked but was getting noisy, still have it as a spare. The new pump cost $175 about 4 years ago. You could try a pump from a 530, but they are only a little cheaper, but this may have changed. Make sure you check with Max or La Lolla on current pricing.
