The Crane shouldn't affect your idle speed. . . (archive)

You need to set your timing correctly. If your timing is too advanced (at idle) it can increase your idle speed. If, before you turned the distributor, your timing was set correctly, then your idle should be pretty close once you reset your idle. If not, reset your idle.

With the Crane, you should notice a slight improvement in engine smoothness. The biggest difference, however, is that the smoothness won't degrade over time b/c there's nothing to go out of adjustment.

Hi,

I just replaced my points with an XR700 Crane electronic ignition. I'm new at all this, so I really didn't know what I was doing. I put it in, put in some new sparkplugs and gapped them at 40. I then started the car, and it was real rough. I gave the distributor a little turn here and there, and it seems to work pretty fine. The thing is, though, my idle is up around 1500. Additionally, I don't notice any difference in performance. It's basically as it was before, except now I have this fast idle.

Ideas?
