I have seen guys in other racing do it they say to take the drag off the engine. Other tricks electric fuel pumps and water pumps.
At SCCA races at Buttonwillow yesterday-a round tail light 02 in the GT3 class. This car was FAST! Owner/driver was a wrench out of Orange County, CA. Interesting thing was, he ran his alternator (a GM, by the way) in his trunk. Belt went around pulley mounted on drivers side output shaft of diff. Never seen that before.
