Could be the headlight switch, the power for the gauge lights comes through the rheostat (spring looking thingie) at the back of the switch. If you can wobble the switch shaft up and down more than a little bit when it's pulled out the switch might be going bad. I had this happen to me and installing a better switch fixed the problem.

Before you do that, make sure to twist the knob all the way to the right and left, you might have just turned the lights off by accident...

good luck-

Anything that this points to, other than bulbs and grounds? I had the cluster out to fix the speedo , and when i put it back in, i no longer have any 'illumination' lights on my speedo and tach. The other lights work, such as blinker, brights, alternator, brake, etc. i replaced the bulbs, checked the fuses, and cleaned the grounds. did i jar some of the wires inside? The headlight switch itself still does work (or at least, my headlights come on).

any ideas appreciated.

ps to top it off, one of the gears on the speedo is beyond fixing.. almost ground smooth, so i took it out for nothing :(
