If at all possible, find a BMW factory service manual. Look in the section 41, which covers renewing doors. There is a large, fully dimensioned drawing that shows the exact location of each hole required on a new door's skin.

This even includes a close-up drawing (with dim.) that details the hole size & shape for the attaching nutserts. Get the correct BMW nutserts, they work best, fit the right threads & are cheap.

The mirror holes are 82 mm center-to-center, and the forward one is located 300 mm back from the leading edge of the door skin, beneath the crease for the top trim strip. The height is 20 mm below that crease. Maybe someone can scan this page for you, if that's not clear.

Missing these marks, you are likely to encounter the double sheet metal reinforcement in that area, which makes the job a pain!

I will be installing my new right view mirror (passenger door) this weekend. I know that I will have to perforate the door to instal the mirror base :( Any words of advice just to make sure that I DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!
