I have been corresponding with Mobile Tradition about my concern that they have stopped offering information on our cars (like they used to) free of charge, or at least for a nominal fee. Most recently, it has been required to purchase a Certificate of Authenticity along with the car production date, etc. for a $90 fee, through BMW Online, etc....you've probably seen the ads. Very nice, but pricey to just get production information on our cars.
Kai Jacobsen of the Mobile Tradition Historical Archives has informed me just today that they have reversed their policy to not offer information on our beloved old Bimmers.
Here is the text of the message I received:
as promised, here is the result of our internal discussion in regard to informations about cars and motorcycles.
In regard to possible complaints and due to the fact that in the end we don't want to force someone to buy the Certificate just to get information about a vehicle, I can tell you that we will proceed in the future as follows:
Those people, who don't need or want something elaborate, which one can also hang up the wall, like the Certificate, will get information about their automobile or motorcycle for free, if they send an email or call.
Those owners, who need production date and delivery information to get their vehicle registered or to get new registration papers, will get a so-called "Herstellerbescheinigung" on BMW Mobile Tradition letterhead, and this will cost Euro 25,--, which is about US $ 23.
I hope you can see that this will again be customer-friendly and that we are interested in providing a perfect service.
What we cannot change is the price and the way to order Certificates for US customers.
BMW Mobile Tradition
As you can see, they are indeed attempting to help us out and remain loyal to "the '02 Faithful"!!!
For discussions and requests about reproducing those NLA parts Kai gave me the e-mail of the person in charge of production of those spare parts for our "beloved" 2002's!!!
His name is Georg Blumoser ([email protected])
So, let's let George knwo what we would like to see put back into production....if we get enough interest and it's profitable, I'll bet they will try to help us out.
Let me be the first to order my new early style dashboard Happy '02ing, John Weese
