My wife drives a '91 318is. It's the most 2002-like of any later BMW, IMHO. The twincam 4 is nifty, revs like mad, gets good mileage, more fun than the 6 for me. I don't care for 4-door e30s, they look odd. And I don't care for power steering and electric windows, but that's the way they shipped them.

I'll stick with my 02, but e30s can be great fun, especially if you're looking for a car that doesn't need restoration.

1. The turbos were not officially imported by the factory to the US. The turbos currently in the US were imported by individuals.

2. It can be done, it isn't cheap, and you really need to know what you're doing. Pete McHenry or Dave Varco are the guys you need to talk to about this conversion. You need to upgrade the brakes, drivetrain, etc. to handle the extra horsepower.

3. Performance parts are available from a handful of vendors. Check out the vendor's list on

A comment, before rushing to modify a '02, drive several in various stages of upgrade 1st. Then decide if the '02 is your type of car.
