An original, unmolested 3.3CSL would be a sight to behold, drive, and own. But unless it's been through as thorough a restoration as that '02 up there, the specter of the lurking tinworm remains. Especially when you consider the kind of sheetmetal coming from Karmann in that era. Thinner than normal sheetmetal even.

A better-than-factory-new '02 for $50K, or a 3.3CSL for the same price that has never had its front fenders off for inspection? Call me irrational, but I may very well opt for the '02. Not that owning either of these 25+ year old cars is a rational decision. My 3.3 cents.
