Connected to the egine block is about 6 pipes coming out going into the exhaust. These pipes look welded into the engine block.
Well, unfortunately one of the exhaust pipes cracked (in the what looks like the welded area). The car sounds like a lawn mower.
It is a 73 2002 tii in good shape.
I am curious as to how you fix it. I know I need a new exhaust. The rear and middle sections. If the rear exhaust sags or hangs it put pressure on what cracked the connection to the engine block.
It is very loud and I need to take care of this as soon as possible.
Any Help out there???
Ijust removed a "Stahl" header from my '74 2002 and went with the tii manifold set up. You should be able to remove the 4 upper nuts and 4 lower nuts to remove the header, get new studs while you are at it and go with the set up that was meant for the car, the tii exhaust manifold. To remove the rest of the sytem, apply some penetrating oil to the 3 nuts that hold the resonator to the down pipe or header and remove those after a little while, remove the muffler from the resonator, this may take a little while, take off the clamp where the muffler attatches to the resonator, you'll need to wiggle it for a while but it will separate. Go with the oem exhaust system, my personal favorite, it is quiet and will run you a little over $200 for all.

As my brother and I were taking off the header, we had to jack up the motor in order for the header to be removed, this way the header can be removed by pushing out towards the rear of the car, just a "heads up" for you,
