Possible combination of slightly misaligned windows landing on rubber softened by the heat. Old rubber can be crumbly, and possibly some of it is missing due to gradual wear. The outer lip is missing on my driver's side.

My 1600 had marks on the vertical aluminum pillar trim that were left by the driver's side window. There was a lot of free play of the window in the tracks. Adjustment tightened it up considerably, plus made the car quieter (less wind noise and vibration).
