Alternator problems? (archive)

Quick question: when I turn my lights on the volts drop to 9, #2 fuse starts glowing, and the alternator belt starts squeeking.
I re-ground the alternator and checked the other main grounds. Could this be a failed internal regulator on the 320i alternator(internally regulated)? If this is the case can you purchase the new regulator without buying an alternator?
