Sticking throttle? (sort of long) (archive)

Hey guys...
My 02's throttle sticks partway open just as a I take up the clutch, and if I put the clutch in, the engine returns to idle, and does not continue to race. It only sticks in first gear.

Possible Diagnosis A: The throttle has been sticking when making hard left hand turns at low speeds (like in a parking lot) ever since I put in the 38/38 carb and different linkage (now the throttle sticks going straight). The shop that did the linkage did a nice job...there's a lot less slop then before, BUT I'm thinking that maybe worn motor mounts could lead to the engine torque-ing over and moving the linkage. The problems I have with this diagnosis are: What does left-hand-turning have to do with how much the engine torques? Why does the throttle now stick going straight? This doesn't explain why putting the clutch in returns the engine to idle.

Possible diagnosis B: The more likely of the two...I just haven't gotten down and dirty to check it out: The throttle linkage goes right by the clutch linkage, and somehow they're getting hung up with one another. This still doesn't explain the left-turn thing, but it may explain the fact that putting the clutch in stops the motor from racing. It still seems kind of strange to me that this problem would go from a slow left turn issue to an all the time problem. Who knows with these cars, I guess.

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that out there, and see if anyone has any other thoughts.

TIA
