Flat rate is the norm in dealerships. If you work as a fleet mechanic than you're probably paid by the hour. Some guys hate it, but that's the way it is in most places. Sometimes you might lose your ass chasing an electrical problem all day and only get 2 hours for it. But once you get efficient you may work an 8 hour day but make 12-15 hours or more. Than the customer gets mad cause you charged him 6 hours to rebuild a front end and you completed it in 3. Such is life. Take the good with the bad. BMW is in the forefront of technology, and it's a good place to be, 'cause not everyone can keep up with it. It will probably take time and a lot of studying in your spare time to learn the electrics, if you're not used to dealing with that stuff. But if you're good at what you do than there'll always be a job for you.
