After a few months of performing "foot acrobatics" whenever my accellerator pedal came loose, I yanked it off to find that the rubber had worn and split on the right-hand socket (the hole on the back side of the pedal that snaps over the metal knob on the floor). Here's how to fix it:
1. Go to Home Despot and purchased a Danco "Home Washer Assortment" (plumbing dept), which contains eleventeen different size washers.
2. Select one whose opening is the same size as the non-affected socket. (the one that seemed to work for me was a cone-shaped one, which was pretty thick, so I cut it in half, width-wise)
3. Sand the surface around the edges of the socket.
4. Using some really strong glue (either the kind Jake used in "The Blues Brothers" to sabotage the Good 'Ol Boys Winnebago, or what I used was the 2-tube epoxy) and glue the washer to the top of the socket. Be sure to center it over the hole.
5. After the glue hardens, snap the pedal back in place. It takes a bit of effort--I put it in place and then stepped on it, which did the trick.
