questions about rims... suggestions? (archive)

I'm looking to get rims for my 2002. which will have an m20 engine, front coil overs and turbo flares. I hacked out ( i love plasma cutters) about 3-4 inches along the turbos apex and 2 inch on either side, so the front fender won't have a rubbing issue. The rear however will run billsteins and h&r pro rate. The amountt of fender removed in the rear was a bit more then the factory double bent crease, approx 1.5-2" semi-ring. I have may sizes narrowed down to 15 or 16" rims but the offset and other numbers are confusing me. Would it be possible to get an inset rim (like the 540/m5)that would stick out past the fender flares about .5 ot 1.0 inches? What kind of spacer size could I run?Tire rack is no help BTW. I can only choose 3 different rims from them....
