Why did you replace the alt? Was it not charging? Maybe your voltage regulator is hooped. Unplug it at the alt. and try connecting the ground. Still sparks? Maybe something in your car is just on and drawing current. You could try removing all the fuses and seeing what happens. If that's not it, disconnect the starter wire at the started and see if you still get sparks.

Is the alt. a new one or used? Maybe your replacement is hooped?

Alternator and voltage regulator wiring is pretty simple. It's either the alt. or regulator, or a current draw somewhere in your car which may or may not be normal.

You could always drive your car without the alt. charging providing your battery has a good charge, and you aren't running any electrical accessories (except ignition). This should get you to your wife provided you don't shut the car off anywhere and run the battery down, or have to drive to far like that.
